The Mission
The Committee of Communications Industry Development (CoCID) was established by the MoEA in May, 2003. CoCID is Taiwan’s leading agency for information, communication technologies, and is assigned the role of helping Taiwan’s communication industry meet three core targets: wireless applications, services. and networks; broadband communications; and telecommunications. CoCID also drives these objectives to accomplish the expectation of the National Science & Technology Program for Telecommunications (NTP).
The Vision
The vision of the initiative is to provide a platform for innovation by moving towards one integrated industry for the seamless introduction of communication services. Furthermore, CoCID will advance Taiwan’s communications industry into the world’s top 10 position.
The Target
CoCID champions Taiwan as one of the major global suppliers for cellular phones, wired and wireless equipment. There are three targets. The first is to expand Taiwan's cellular phone market past 2008's 40% global share. The second is to maintain Taiwan's 90% market share in global WLAN products. The third is to continue momentum in promoting Taiwan's electronic products such as WiMAX CPEs and dongles.
CoCID supports building domestic FTTH and M-Taiwan infrastructures, and developing application services such as WiMAX and Mobile Internet. COCID would like to invite other domestic manufacturers of the mobile industry ecosystem to join in this initiative to realize the vision of Taiwan’s communications industry via the NTP. |
